The best feature of the Columbia Newton hiking boot is that it is made with combination of full-grade leather and suede. When it comes to material, there is usually nothing better than leather, as it is highly durable and will withstand the test of time.
In terms of being waterproof, these hiking boots are indeed fully waterproof, so you don’t have to worry about getting your feet wet. They are also windproof from the outside, which comes in handy on cool and windy days.
The front of the shoe features a mesh tongue, which helps to increase breathability a bit. When it comes down to it, these are good hiking boots for cool and rainy weather, but probably not for extremely cold winter days. The Columbia Mens Newton Ridge Plus II features a Techlite lightweight midsole that comes with a lot of cushioning.
It manages to be very lightweight, yet also supports the arches and absorbs impacts from repeated steps.
This hiking boot comes with a solid rubber outsole and a really deep traction pattern to ensure that you don’t slip and fall.
- ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY: This Columbia Mens Newton Ridge Plus II Waterproof hiking boot features Techlite lightweight midsole for long lasting comfort, superior cushioning, and high energy return as well as Omni-Grip advanced traction rubber sole for slip-free movement.

- ADJUSTABLE FEATURES: The Newton Ridge Plus Waterproof II hiking boot features a lace-up closure for an adjustable, secure fit.
- DURABILITY: This mens waterproof hiking boot is lightweight and durable.

Timberland is a big-brand name and they have managed to outdo themselves here yet again. Not only is this hiking boot super stylish, it is also highly functional. The whole boot, from top to bottom, is made of 100% genuine full-grain leather.
So, for one, it has superior durability and resistance to wear and tear. On that same note, being made of real leather also makes these hiking boots 100% waterproof and windproof.
However, they do not feature insulation, as is needed for cold winter days, but for cooler and rainy spring or autumn days, they will do just fine. The speed-lacing loops makes the Timberland Men’s Flume Waterproof Boot very quick and easy to lace up.
I also like the traction pattern, as it is designed for even the roughest and slipperiest of conditions. They also have a fair amount of ankle and arch support, plus a decent amount of cushioning.
- Timberland Flume mens hiking boots grip rocky trails and crave elevation. Mid-height waterproof hikers keep you comfy and protected, from trailhead to summit and during every adventure in-between.
- LOOK NO FURTHER for trail-ready performance and style. Our selection of men’s hiking boots, waterproof hiking boots, casual boots, and casual shoes is designed to fit in with your outdoor-ready ensembles.

KEEN Men's Durand Mid Waterproof Hiking Boot
These hiking boots are designed for slightly warmer days. They are made with full-grain leather, which helps increase durability. The sections of the KEEN Men’s Durand Mid Waterproof Hiking Boot which feature leather are 100% waterproof and windproof.
However, what needs to be said here is that these boots feature mesh paneling on the sides and the front.
These sections are not waterproof or windproof, but they make for really convenient features during hot summer days. On one hand, these are durable boots meant for long-distance hiking, but they are also designed to keep your feet cool and comfortable on hot days.
Besides that, these boots have really good tread on them, so you won’t slip on rough or slippery surfaces. What is nice here is that these boots do also feature a lot of arch and ankle support, plus lots of mid-foot padding for comfort.
- ALL-TERRAIN: Features dual-compound rubber outsole with 4mm multi-directional lugs for higher-traction grip; Contoured heel lock holds your heel in place for a more secure footing
- SUPPORT & STABILITY: Removable, dual-density EVA footbed supports the arch for long-lasting comfort during all-day hikes; Stability shank adds some extra lightweight support
- DESIGNED FOR COMFORT: A direct-attach PU midsole for resilient cushioning on the trail; Speed hooks for easy lace adjustment so you can get the perfect fit
- CONSCIOUSLY CONSTRUCTED: Environmentally preferred leather that uses less chemicals; Eco Anti-Odor Technology that naturally breaks down odor; PFC-free water repellent treatment

Merrell Men's Capra Mid Waterproof Hiking Boot
This is the last boot on our list today, yet another really nice one. This one is similar to the previous one we just looked at in the sense that it is best used on cool or warm summer days, but not for winter or extremely rainy days.
These boots are made with synthetic materials, textiles, and a bit of pig leather. They are very durable and will withstand some wear and tear.
These boots are labeled as being totally waterproof, but when it comes down to it, they are water resistant, not totally waterproof.
They feature a lot of mesh on them, which is great for hot days where you need some ventilation for your feet, but these mesh panels will let in wind and water, so just be aware of that. Other than that, the Merrell Men’s Capra Mid Waterproof Hiking Boot is a fantastic option, as it has really good tread, various features for comfort, and is quite durable overall.
- Pig suede leather and mesh upper
- Traditional lace closure
- Bellows tongue keeps debris out
- Breathable mesh lining
- 3.5mm lug depth, vibram mega grip

Summary
When it comes down to it, all 4 of the options we have looked at are fantastic to go with. The first 2 are my favorite, especially for colder and rainy weather.
These options are totally waterproof, super durable, and will also keep your feet warm to a certain extent. This is their best feature.
On the other hand, the last 2 options, while also being very durable, have more mesh on them to make them better ventilated.
This is a good thing for summer and spring days with moderate or warm temperatures. However, they won’t keep wind and water out too well.
At the end of the day, the decision you come to is mostly going to depend on the weather conditions in which you plan to go hiking.
