Trail Cameras with Viewing Screen Reviews

A trail camera viewing screen is a great addition to the specification of a trail camera.

An LCD screen allows you to view pictures in situ, providing instant feedback as to how active a location has been for wildlife or game animals.

In this review, all the cameras have color LCD viewing screens that let you view  images while in the field and adjust the camera via a settings menu.

Listed below are 5 cameras covering all budget ranges. The first 2 cameras reviewed offer high end features.

The 3 remaining trail cams are more budget type trail cams, ideal for a first time user.

Browning Strike Force Pro XD

Browning Trail Cameras Strike Force Pro XD Dual Lens Trail Camera BTC-5PXD, Camo

Last update on 2024-03-24 / Affiliate links / Images from Amazon Product Advertising API

The Browning Strike Force Pro XD is one of the smallest cameras in this group test and part of the Browning sub micro series of trail cameras.

What sets this trail camera apart is the dual lens set up. One lens for daytime and the second lens for nightime image capture. This means the camera is optimized for both, thus recording clear, sharp video and photos both day and night.

The 1.5 ” Color LCD viewing screen lets you view pictures stored on the SD card. The screen is well illuminated in darkness and allows you to adjust the settings with ease.

Trigger time without the flash is a very respectable 0.15 seconds although some have reported that pictures taken at 80 feet plus with the IR flash are sharp with good contrast making is easy to identify game from distance.

Overall image quality is very good. The camera has a 24 megapixel sensor and shoots video at 1600 x 900 resolution.

The camera comes with a quality 6 foot nylon tree strap and user manual.

Summary

Browning trail cameras are always hard to ignore. They have a reputation for quality.

This is a very compact camera, ideal for placing in areas with high activity. Images are stored on SD cards up to 512GB, which is a huge, allowing this camera to keep taking pictures for longer.

I would recommend the Browning for scouting deer and land management.

  • Image sensor: 24 MP
  • Trigger speed: 0.15 seconds
  • Night vision: Infrared LED
  • SD card: 512GB SDXC memory card
  • Detection range: up to 80 ft
  • Flash range: 120 ft

First of the budget trail cams to look at in this review is the Usogood trail camera. Although being a budget camera it has solid build quality, plus the camera housing is waterproof and secure.

2.4 inch LCD screen allows you to check and view pictures in real time. This feature makes setting up the camera much easier.

The video quality is excellent for a low cost trail cam, offering full HD resolution at 1080p. The 20 megapixel camera also records good quality still pictures, with high contrast and sharp detail.

The trigger range again is around 65 feet, at night it uses 42pcs 940nm infrared LEDs that capture reasonably sharp and clear black and white still pictures of wildlife within the 65 feet range.

Trigger time is an impressive 0.2 seconds and the camera takes 3 photos in a burst when the camera detects motion.

An added extra that comes with the camera is a USB cable that allows you to connect to your computer to download the images quickly.

The SD card slot takes a standard SD card class 6 and above although no card is provided with this bundle.

Summary

The Usogood trail camera is an excellent choice for a first time user. It comes with a host of extras including a tree mount, USB cable and mounting belt, so you’re good to go straight out the box.

Last update on 2024-03-26 / Affiliate links / Images from Amazon Product Advertising API

The VooPeak Mini Wildlife Camera has many features for such a small trail camera. Backed up with reasonably good quality video and photos, althougth its no match for the Browning XD Pro we looked at earlier.

This camera also has a 2 inch LCD screen, and like all the other cameras in this review it gives you the opportunity to view your still pictures and video while out in the field.

This trail cam has an infrared sensor for night vision, capturing black and white pictures. The black and white pictures are clear due to the 850nm black low glow IR LEDs.

Detection range is a maximum of 65 feet for both photos and video. The detection angle is 120 degrees and the trigger speed an impressive 0.5 seconds.

There is also a time lapse function which allows you to capture both video or still pictures at set time intervals regardless of whether the camera is triggered or not.

The camera comes supplied with an impressive array of extras. A USB cable is supplied along with a belt strap tree mount and an AV cable to allow you to plug the camera straight into your television.

Summary

The VooPeak Mini makes another great choice as a first trail camera. Well priced and specced, this trail camera won’t disappoint with an array of features and is easy to setup

The 120 degree detection angle make it an ideal choice for larger areas, such as a field or food plot.

  • Image sensor: 24MP
  • Trigger speed: 0.5 seconds
  • Night vision: 42pcs Infrared LEDs

Final Thoughts

There’s no doubt, after you’ve owned a trail cam with an LCD screen your unlikely to use one without, as it’s such a useful feature to have.

The Browning Strike Force Pro is my top choice as an all purpose trail game cam. Its picture quality and overall performance is hard to match.

If you’re looking for a cellular trail camera, the Snyper is worth taking a look. I have written a review specifically on cellular trail cameras if you think it’s a feature that may interest you further.

The VooPeak trail camera is the budget option to go with and the UsoGood camera is ideal for home security with its WiFi connectivity.
