Moultrie Trail Camera Reviews

In this article I cover Moultrie trail camera reviews of 5 trail cameras across the current  Moultrie range in terms of budget and specification.

The article will help you make an informed decision when looking to buy your new Moultrie trail cam.

This review starts off with the cheapest trail camera, the A-25 and finishes with the most expensive in this review, the Panoramic 180i.

If your in a hurry, the A-25 is my budget trail camera choice, and the M8000i my high end trail camera recommendation

Lets now take a further look at these 5 Moultrie trail cams in this lineup.

Moultrie A-25 Trail Camera

The A-25 is an entry level trail camera thats ideal for people looking to buy a number of cameras to set up for scouting purposes and save on cost.

This version has the standard infrared flash. If you prefer an invisible LED flash then the A-25i offers this. You do loose 10 feet in flash range as a trade off though.

I’ve owned the bigger brother the A-30 for many years now, which has the same camera specification. The image quality is almost the same, and is very good for a budget trail camera.

Video resolution is 720p and the pictures are 12 megapixel. Night pictures are a little grainy compared to more expensive models. The video quality is good for this level of camera.

SD card compatibility

Please note: This camera will only work with standard SD cards. High and Ultra SD cards will come up with an error message on the LCD screen.

The camera takes 8 x AA batteries. I recommend using lithium batteries for best performance. The camera will capture up to 17000 images from a full set of batteries.

Moultrie A-25 Trail Camera

Specification
  • 12 Megapixel
  • 720P HD Video
  • Up to 32GB Standard SD card
  • 0.7 Second Trigger Speed
  • 60 ft. Flash Range
  • 60 ft. Detection Range
  • 8 AA Batteries

The trigger speed of the A-25 is reasonably fast at around 0.7 seconds and the detection range of 60 feet is standard for a camera at this level.

Moultrie A300 Infrared Flash Trail Camera

I’m not sure why Moultrie [1] have added this camera to their range of trail cameras. The specification is almost the same as the A-25 above, with the exception of the infrared flash being invisible on the [i] version.

The video and pictures quality is poor, even for an entry level camera in my opinion. Your better off buying the A-25 as it beats this model in every aspect.

The trigger speed is quite slow at around 0.9 seconds and the detection range is 60 feet.

Summary

Overall, I’d suggest you avoid this trail camera. The A-25 is far better as an entry level trail camera.

A700i Invisible Flash Trail Camera

The Moultrie A700i is another entry level trail camera with a 14 megapixel camera and invisible infrared flash technology.

As with the other A Series trail cameras, the A700 records HD video at 720P. The pictures are captured using the 14MP image sensor.

The trigger speed is pretty fast at 0.7 seconds and the detection range is 50 feet, which is a little disappointing for a trail camera even at this price. The A-25 has a detection range of 60 feet for example.

One of the biggest strengths of the A700i is the ease of setting up the camera. Its very easy in the menu to switch between video mode and picture burst mode for example.

Battery life with the camera is good. The camera runs on 8 x AA batteries that will last for up to 17000 pictures recorded on the SD card.

The M Series trail cameras in Moultrie’s lineup are aimed at professional land management and hunters who require the best scouting feedback.

M8000i Impressive Specification

The M8000i has an impressive specification. Images are recorded using a 20 megapixel image sensor. The video resolution is fun HD too. The pictures can video this camera records are very impressive, both during the day and at night.

The excellent image quality is backed up with a top class detection circuit. Trigger speed is a super fast 0.3 seconds and the detection range a very impressive 80 feet, coupled with an 80 ft flash range for night-time illumination.

The camera is powered by 8 x AA batteries that are good for over 19000 pictures, recorded onto the SD card.

If your willing to spend a bit extra on a high end trail camera, the Moultrie M8000i is certainly worth a close look.

Moultrie Panoramic 180i Game Camera

The 180i has 3 fixed lens, covering a field of view of 180 degrees. This allows the camera to record a panoramic image stitched together by the cameras on image processor.

This make the camera ideal to cover large food plot areas and fields.

The 14 megapixel image sensor records full HD video at 1080p with sound. Night images are good quality, although the flash range could be better from the invisible infrared LED emitters.

The camera runs on 12 x AA batteries that will record up to 15000 images approximately. There is the option to power the camera from a compatible 12v power source.
