GoPro Media Mod Unboxing (Hero 9 & 10 Compatible)
I share my first impressions in this GoPro Media Mod unboxing of the packaging and more importantly that all important compatibility with the Hero 10.
The Hero 10 shares the same size and form factor as the Hero 9. So we can all breathe easy and use all the accessories we bought for the Hero 9 with the latest GoPro model the Hero 10 Black.
Hero 10 Compatible Box Sticker
If we were in any doubt as to whether the Media Mod was compatible with the new camera from GoPro. A big blue sticker announcing “10 compatible” on the front of the box put those final doubts at ease.
Underside of Media Mod Box
Flipping the box over to reveal the underside of the box shows you which other GoPro accessories will attach to the 2 cold shoe mounts. One shoe at the top of the mod and the second shoe on the side.
There is also a brief introduction to the Media Mod highlighting the features of the mod itself explained on the underside of the box.
Opening The Box
Opening the box is done via the base of the box. The top is sealed with glue. So if you wish to keep the integrity of the box, perhaps for resale in the future its best to open the box from the base of the box itself.
The box in which my Media Mod came with had several clear stickers securing the base card tuck-in flaps. It was just a matter of carefully peeling the stickers from the box.
With the stickers removed, the inside packaging pulls out from the card outer with ease.
Contents Of Box
Removing the inner packaging reveals the mod tucked within a card outer shell. The foam mic cover sits inside the mod, as shown in the picture above.
The 2 accessories are placed above the media mod [1] on cards inner packaging.
Media Mod Supplied Accessories
Included with the media are the following extra items.
- Foam mic cover
- GoPro buckle mount
- Thumbscrew
I’d liked to have seen perhaps a curved mounting plate with an adhesive pad included for those who will use the media mod mounted to a helmet, myself included.
Final Thoughts
The Media Mod does open up a whole load of possibilities for both the GoPro Hero 9 & the new Hero 10.
The USB-C input is especially useful for those looking record time-lapse and hyperlapse clips for any extended time period using a powerbank.
