Introduction to the Exodus Lift 2 Trail Camera

The lift 2 improves on the original popular Exodus Lift trail camera. Every area has been improved according to the company and looking at the specification and results from videos and images it looks as though they have achieved just that.

Specification

There is a choice of recording HD video at 2 resolutions, 1080 being the highest. The still images are captured from 3MP to 12MP.

The company advertise a detection range of 60 feet. In tests it has shown that the PIR sensor will exceed this during the day with a detection range at over 70 feet.

With a 1.5 second recovery time, the time in which it takes for the camera to be triggered after a previous detection ensures that almost all movement in front of the camera will be picked up. There is also the option to adjust the sensitivity from low, medium to high.

Features

The camera records still images and video onto an SD card. The maximum size Sd card is 64GB with the latest firmware installed. If you check within the menu settings it will tell you the firmware number currently installed.

There is a 2 inch color LCD screen that displays a live image of what the camera lens is seeing. This makes it very easy to set up the camera at the correct angle and height.

The LCD screen also allows you to access the menu settings for the camera.

At the base of the camera is a ¼” x 20 threaded insert for attaching a trail camera holder to a tree, plus the Exodus comes with a tree strap supplied as well.

Battery Life

It accepts 8 x AA batteries and Exodus do strongly recommend that you use lithium batteries only for this particular camera.

The battery life has been improved on the last Exodus Lift Trail cam. Expect to see at least 25,000+ images recorded onto an SD card in any type of weather condition. Another bonus with lithium batteries is that they are far less affected by low temperatures.

Security Features

At the back of the camera housing is a loop / bracket to accept a python lock to both secure the camera to a tree and also stop access to the control panel and LCD screen.

The menu settings allow you also to set up a passcode to access the settings once the camera is live.

Image Quality

If you take a look at the images below you can see that the Lift 2 captures very good quality images. The HD video is also some of the best I’ve seen from a trail camera. Perhaps the latest Browning XD Pro has eclipsed it slightly in this area but it still out there as one of the best overall in terms of picture / image quality.

Setting up the Exodus Lift 2

As mentioned before the camera is set up using the menu screen on the 2 inch LCD display.

There is the option to capture video, still pictures and timelapse. All of these settings have the flexibility of changing the burst mode for pictures from 1- 9, video length and timelapse frequency. There is also a hybrid mode that captures both video and pictures when the camera is triggered.

You can set up the name of the camera for easy identification with the date stamp, plus there is a very useful geo-tagg option for still pictures.

Another useful feature in the settings is the operating hours. This lets you choose a time “window” using a 24 hour clock to tell it when to start and stop recording. By default it’s set to all day.

Final thoughts

Exodus have done a great job in improving on an already popular and successful trail camera with the first version.

The company have backed this up with a 5 year warranty to cover any component failure too. If you do decide to buy, inside the camera housing is the serial number, make sure you register the camera on the Exodus website.

I would say it’s not the cheapest trail camera, but the quality of the images speak for themselves so I’d certainly consider looking at the Exodus Lift 2 as your next trail cam purchase. Especially with that 5 year warranty.
