Apeman Action Camera Reviews
In this article I take a look at three 4k action cameras from Apeman [1]. From the low cost A77 model right up to the A100 with it’s high frame rate 4k video recording.
The cameras come with an array of accessories to get you started straight out the box. 2 batteries are supplied, plus a waterproof housing for underwater shots.
There’s not a great deal to separate the 2 higher end cameras in this review, the A100 and the Apeman A87. My personal favourate is the A87 as it has the best overall picture quality and features.
These cameras also have a touch screen which the most affordable camera here, the A77 doesn’t. The A77 is great for those looking to get into recording action footage for the first time. Or perhaps need a robust camera to take on a beach vacation without worrying about the camera getting damaged.
Lets now take a look at the 3 Apeman action cameras I have chosen for this review.

APEMAN A100 4K Action Camera
- Waterproof: 40 m
- 4K video: up to 50 fps
- 2.7K video: up to 30 fps
- 1080P video: up to 60 fps
- Stills resolution: 20 MP
As with all the Apeman action cameras the A100 comes with a whole array of extras, including 2 batteries rated at 1350mAh allowing 90 minutes of recording per battery at 1080p.
The camera comes with a number of attachments for various outdoor pursuits such as mountain bikes, plus a waterproof housing rated up to 40 metres as the camera itself is not waterproof.
There’s plenty of additional features too. The camera has a color touchscreen where menu settings can be changed with ease of those all important video resolutions.
For shots recorded on the move the electronic image stabilization (EIS) does a reasonably good job of capturing smooth footage. It’s not as smooth as the latest GoPro cameras but all the same it’s more than acceptable for most people.
Looking at the specification of the Apeman A100 you’d have to say it’s impressive on paper, starting with the highest video resolution at 4K 50 frames per second (fps).
At 1080p the camera records at 60 fps which allows you to slow the footage down by 50% for a more “dreamy” style which you see a lot these days on YouTube.
Highest frame rates as with all these action cameras is to be found at 720p resolution. The A100 will record at 120 fps at 720p which is great for super slow motion shots to be shared on Instagram and other social media platforms.
There’s a lot to like about the Apeman A100. You have the ability to control the camera via an app on your phone. It records quality video especially at 1080p 60fps and the EIS is a welcome feature to have for ensuring those action shots have a smooth fluid feel to them.
- Quality 1080P Video under bright light
- EIS stabilization makes for smooth video
- Accessories kit with 2 batteries
- 4K video quality is average
- No Gyro Stabilization
APEMAN A87 4K Action Camera
- Waterproof: 40 m
- 4K video: up to 60 fps
- 1080P video: up to 120 fps
- 720P video: up to 240 fps
- Stills resolution: 20 MP
I’ll start off by saying this is my personal favorite action camera in the Apeman range. The reason is simple, it performs the best overall out of all the other models, which I’ll go into more details now.
Like most people who use action cameras I try and always shoot at the highest frame rate in most cases. The A87 boasts a frame rate of 60 fps at 4K which is impressive.
In practice 4K video recorded at this frame rate with the A87 is narrowing the gap between budget action cams and the high end cameras such as GoPro.
1080p video is also very good quality especially in bright conditions on a sunny day for example. Coupled with the EIS and gyro stabilization with distortion correction, footage while on the move is very smooth and stable.
Another big feature on the A8 is the 8 x optical zoom. This allows you to take more close up still pictures at 20 megapixels.
To summarise, the A87 makes a great choice as a budget action camera. It has smartphone app control, a color touchscreen, plus it comes with a small remote to set recording and a whole load of other features and accessories. Read my full review of the A87 Action Camera.
- Quality 4K video at 60 fps
- 8 x optical zoom
- Impressive stabilization for video
- Underwater housing still required
- Nighttime images could be better
APEMAN A77 4K Sports Action Camera
- Waterproof: 30 m
- 4K video: up to 30 fps
- 1080P video: up to 60 fps
- Stills resolution: 20 MP
For those of you looking for an action camera to start off with to take to the beach on vacation, the Apeman A77 makes a great choice.
It doesn’t have the higher frame rates of the other cameras but it costs a lot less so there is a balance there.
There are a lot of features still to play with on the A77, such as timelapse for recording those dramatic sunsets to share on social media. A self timer for posed selfie still pictures, you can even take it with you into the sea using the supplied waterproof housing.
The camera comes with 2 batteries, a remote to allow you to take pictures and control other key features.
You can control the camera via a downloadable free app via your smartphone, you can even use it as a web camera.
On the whole the A77 makes a lot of sense if you just want to throw a capable camera in your daypack and head to the beach and not worry about it too much. The video quality is not brilliant but it’s more than acceptable to share memories with friends and family.
- Great budget action camera
- Smartphone app control
- Comes with accessories
- 4k video is not great quality
