Gerber Dime Mini Multi Tool Review

In this review article I share my thoughts on ownership of the Gerber Dime mini multi tool.

A while back I was looking for a mini multi tool for every day carry that would be ideal for light daily tasks.

I chose the Gerber Dime over the Leatherman Squirt mostly due to the aesthetics of the Gerber, plus the fact I prefer the sheepsfoot blade which is edged on both sides.

It just looks so dam good, especially in the red scales as shown here. It’s also available in black and green too.

If your looking for a multi tool for heavy duty tasks then I’d suggest looking at these multi tools instead. The Dime is all about portability, carrying it inside a pocket or on a keychain and not for cranking nuts and bolts on a car engine.

Portability

The Gerber Dime is truly a mini multi tool, weighing in at just 2 oz / 62.3 grams.Closed length is 2.75″ / 7 cm.

The body has a keychain compatible lanyard ring which is a great alternative to carry inside a pocket.

Tools

The Dime packs 11 tools that will cover almost all daily light tasks that an EDC pocket multi tool is going to be used for. If your planning on using this for any heavy jobs then I’d suggest something more substantial such as a Leatherman Surge.

Blades

The main blade is really quite nice and comes straight out the box fairly sharp. It’s a nice sheeps foot design, which makes it a safer option for cutting boxes open and such.

There’s a great little retail package opener too. This is ideal for opening those annoying plastic clam shell style packages that most things come in these days.

Pliers

Spring loaded needle nose pliers have a step at the end which is smooth, ideal for removing small diameter items.

The centre section has the standard serrations for gripping small bolts. At the head of the pliers there’s a sharp wire cutter.

Additional functions

The Dime has most of the tools you’d expect from a multi tool as well as the pliers and standard blade.

The bottle opener does stick out from the back of the handle which I know some people don’t like. Personally I have no problem with it, and its opened plenty of bottles at the days end so far.

The scissors are useful and keep their edge well over time, plus there’s a pair of tweezers which I rarely use which are on the flimsy side to be honest.

Finally, there’s a small file which is quite frankly only of use for the smallest of abrasive tasks, but its there just in case.
