Best Budget Inflatable Kayak – Reviews

If you like kayaking, you may have been looking for a new kayak. Personally, I prefer inflatable kayaks, but good ones can be hard to find, not to mention expensive.

This is why I’m here today, to help you find the best budget inflatable kayak.

When looking for an inflatable kayak, you probably want something with a fairly wide base for stability. You also want the material used to be thick, so it does not pop easily, possibly with a reinforced bottom and multiple air chambers for safety.

A comfortable seat and backrest should also be high priorities, plus pull ropes and cargo storage areas.

If you’re new to kayaking then I would suggest reading my guide for beginners to inflatable kayaks.

Intex Challenger K1 Kayak

Last update on 2024-10-30 / Affiliate links / Images from Amazon Product Advertising API

The Intex Challenger K1 Kayak is a great option to go with for many reasons. This is a 1-person kayak with a low profile design.

It’s fairly short and wide, so while it’s not particularly built for speed, it is very stable and easy to maneuver.

This kayak features 2 air chambers and comes with a high output hand pump. This allows you to pump this kayak up in a just a few minutes. The kayak itself weighs just over 27 pounds, but it can handle 220 pounds of user weight.

The Intex Challenger K1 Kayak comes with an inflatable seat and backrest. These are soft and comfortable, plus when fully inflated, they have a decent amount of support.

You get a cargo net in the front, so you can store your gear, plus a grab line on either end so you can hold onto the kayak when need be. You also get an 84 inch aluminum paddle. The kayak, itself is made with 30-gauge material, so it is fairly tough and will not puncture easily.

Durable welded material

Eye catching graphcs

Supplied with paddle, repair patch and pump

Not suitable for people over 200 pounds in weight

Sevylor Quikpak K1 1-Person Kayak

What is convenient about the Sevylor Quikpak K1 1-Person Kayak is that it comes with a high-efficiency pump that lets you inflate it in around 5 minutes. What is also nice here is that it fits into a backpack, which comes included.

The backpack then actually turns into the seat of the kayak. The kayak also has an inflatable backrest, which means that you get a high level of comfort and support. We also like how this kayak comes with a multi-position foot rest, as well as some space for cargo in the front.

In terms of the build, the Sevylor Quikpak K1 1-Person Kayak is made with 21-gauge PVC, which is pretty thick and quite durable. It also comes with a tarpaulin bottom which is reinforced for strength to prevent puncturing.

It also comes with multiple air chambers, so if one is punctured, the others will stay inflated. All in all, this is a very durable inflatable kayak.

It even comes with an airtight system that is guaranteed not to leak. We also like how this kayak has a low profile and is fairly wide, as it helps to keep it stable in the water.

Ideal for carry weight up to 400 lb

Tough 21-gauge PVC

Easy to carry backpack system

Drink holder not ideally situated

Sevylor Quikpak K5

This final inflatable kayak on our list is another great one to go with, and quite the affordable one at that. It is made with rugged 24-gauge PVC for a high level of durability.

It’s great for use on lakes. It comes with multiple air chambers, so that if one pops, there is still another to keep you afloat.

The tarpaulin bottom comes with a bit of added reinforcement, so the kayak does not pop in the event that it hits something. The pump which this kayak comes with is very efficient and allows you to inflate it in under 5 minutes.

The other Sevylor kayak we looked at was much wider and shorter than this one which makes this kayak built more for speed and action than for stability; however, this is not to say that it is unstable.

What is great here is that the backpack to carry the kayak in also doubles as the seat.

This is the seat bottom, with the backrest being inflatable and fairly supportive. There is a spray cover included to block splashing and to keep you dry, plus it comes with D-rings to allow you to attach equipment.

Great for use on lakes

Built for speed

Multiple air chambers

Not as stable as others

Goplus Inflatable Kayak

Currently Unavailable

This is quite an impressive inflatable kayak, weighing only 18 pounds, which makes it very easy to transport, yet it can handle up to 190 pounds of passenger weight.

It also comes in a 2-person model that weighs 25 pounds and can hold up to 350 pounds. The Goplus Inflatable Kayak is a bit long and narrow. This means that it is ideal for speed, but it is not particularly stable or maneuverable.

It is not unstable per se, but it could be a bit wider. It’s good for people who have been kayaking before and enjoy a higher speed ride.

The Goplus Inflatable Kayak features adjustable inflatable seats with backrests. It’s quite comfortable and soft to sit in, although the back support is slightly limited. We like how this kayak comes with 3 blowholes, so there are always blowholes in case one gets damaged.

The hand pump included allows the 2-person model to be inflated in under 10 minutes. It comes with a rope for easy towing, plus a large cargo net and baggage compartment in the front. It’s made with durable PVC, so it won’t pop easily.

Good for 2 people used to kayaking

Light weight at 18 lbs

Comfortable to sit in

May not be stable enough for some people

Summary

When it comes down to it, our top pick award goes to the Intex Challenger K1. It’s very durable and has multiple air chambers so if one is damaged, the others will keep you buoyant. It is comfortable to sit in; it allows you to store gear; and it is quite stable.

On the other hand, our best buy award goes to the Sevylor Quikpak K1 1-Person Kayak. It’s also durable, stable, and comfortable.
