Apeman A87 Action Camera Review
I was looking forward to receiving my Apeman A87. A quick look at the specification promised a lot.
Would this new updated model live up to the expectation? Read on to find out in my Apeman A87 action camera review.
If you’re not familiar with the brand of Apeman. They’re well known for producing action cameras along with trail cameras aimed at the more budget scale of the market.
For those looking for a budget action camera the A87 is definitely worth considering. Let’s now take a look at what’s on offer.

Key Features
The camera records 4K video at 60 frames per second coupled with a wide angle view of 170 degrees.
At the rear of the camera is a color touch screen for accessing the menu settings. In practice the screen works well being responsive to touch although the resolution could be a little higher if I’m being honest.
A free downloadable app is available which displays a live feed from the camera lens, plus allows access to all of the menu settings and modes.
Most people will use the A87 as an action camera, however there is a loop record mode to let you use the camera as a car dash cam. Also the Wi-Fi feature can be used as a webcam too.
Filming underwater up to 40 metres is possible when the camera is placed inside the plastic housing that comes supplied as part of the accessories. It’s worth noting the camera itself is not waterproof without the housing.
Accessories
The camera comes well presented inside a smart grey box.
Inside you’ll find quite a large case and there’s good reason why the case is on the large side as it’s full of accessories.
The mounting brackets shares the same system as GoPro.
Included are an array of brackets to mount on most types of outdoor gear and equipment. From helmets, mountain bikes, camera tripods and so on.
Lastly, the camera comes with two 1050mAh batteries. Each battery will last around 80 minutes of continuous video recording at 1080p.
Video Mode
Now to take a look at the all important video modes. We’ll start off by taking a look at the resolutions and frame rates available for recording video.
At 4K the maximum frame rate is 60 fps, with the option to record at 30 fps. The test footage showed at both frame rates the picture quality was smooth and with sharp detail. Colors looked natural overall.
1080p HD video supports 120 fps. This allows you to to slow the footage down up to 4 times for those ultra dynamic slow motion shots you see a lot these days on social media.
There is also a time-lapse recording mode for filming dramatic sunrises and rolling clouds to add to your video production value.
Photo Mode
Photo mode has the option of taking still images up to 20 megapixels. In the menu settings you have a choice of lower still image resoultions down to 5 MP.
A really nice feature to see included is the 8 x optical zoom in photo mode. This is really useful for taking close-ups and more detailed pictures.
For selfie shots a self timer is provided along with a burst mode to capture a sequence of moving action still images.
Verdict
For those looking for an action camera packed with features and 4K video the Apeman A87 is hard to ignore.
Factor in the price point and the extensive accessories that come with the camera, as a package Apeman are setting the bar high in the budget action camera field.
